BETHANY – The Lady Bronchos shrugged off an early deficit to to take a 4-2 lead over Bishop McGuinness before severe weather in the area suspended the game in the third inning Thursday (Aug. 15).
Bethany coach Booker Blakley told West Metro Sports via text that both schools would try and finish the game at a later date. Both teams are scheduled to play multiple games in their respective tournaments Friday (Aug. 16) so the decision was made to suspend the game.
The Irish (1-1) scored two runs with three hits in the first inning, also taking advantage of a hit by pitch.
Bethany (1-0) got a run back in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Madison Bibbs doubled and then scored on an Irish error on a ground ball from fellow junior Berkley Johnson.
The Lady Bronchos took a 4-2 lead in the second inning after doubles from sophomores Grey Williamson and Ella Davis and a single from senior Ireland Riley.
Bibbs capped the scoring by lining a triple to right field to make it 4-2.
Junior Paige Sechrist allowed two runs on four hits and striking out four batters. Sechrist allowed only one hits in the final two innings of work Thursday.
UP NEXT: The Lady Bronchos head to the Weatherford I-40 Classic Friday and Saturday (Aug. 16-17). Bethany meets Edmond Santa Fe at 11 a.m., host Weatherford at 2 p.m. and Chisholm at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
The Lady Bronchos finish the event Saturday against Tecumseh at 11 a.m. and Plainview at 12:30 p.m.
