PIEDMONT – Putnam City North split its two games in the Edmond Spring Break Festival Friday (March 22). The Panthers beat Verdigris, 14-9, and lost to Bishop McGuinness, 6-1.
Putnam City North 14, Verdigris 9
Trailing 5-2, North scored 12 runs in the sixth inning for the win.
In the big inning, the Panthers collected four hits, six walks and had a batter hit by a pitch.
Senior Cayden Swart and junior Atticus Duffy-Relf each had two hits. Both of Swart’s hits were triples.
Sophomore Owen Attebery pitched three innings of one-hit ball to get the win working out of trouble in the bottom half of the sixth when Verdigris scored four runs. Attebery struck out four batters.
Bishop McGuinness 6, Putnam City North 1
The Panthers were held to three hits in the loss.
In the sixth inning, sophomore Jonathan Lopez worked a 3-2 leadoff walk. He reached second on a passed ball. Fellow sophomore Gavin Lang moved Lopez to third on a groundout to short. Junior Jessie Aaron scored Lopez by grounding to third. Lopez beat the tag at the plate for the Panthers’ lone run.
Junior Rocco Carratini went 2-for-3 in the loss.
