LAWTON – Putnam City North split a doubleheader with Lawton Monday (March 4), losing the first game, 6-5 and the run-ruling the Wolverines in the nightcap, 15-3.
A five-run first inning by Lawton was too much for the Panthers to overcome in the first game.
Trailing 6-2 in the top of the seventh inning, North mounted a comeback behind walks from sophomore Austin Guerrro, junior Aaron Wall and sophomore Gavin Lang.
Senior Cayden Stewart went 2-for-4 for North. Junior Rocco Carratini scattered six hits and struck out six in the loss.
In game two, North (1-3) blew open a 1-0 lead with five runs in the third inning and nine runs in the fourth inning. The Panthers collected 10 hits and nine walks from Lawton pitching. North was the designated home team for the game, winning by run rule in the fifth inning.
Stewart went 3-for-3, with two triples in the fourth inning.
Junior Aaron Wall struck out eight Wolverines in four innings, allowing only one hit. Fellow junior Amari Sanderson pitched the final inning, giving up three runs on a hit with four walks. Sanderson struck out two.
