STILLWATER – Putnam City’s Class 6A-II playoff push ended Friday night at Pioneer Stadium in a 56-7 rout by the defending state champions.

The Pirates, who finish the season at 5-7, were no match for the explosive Stillwater offense that propelled the top-ranked Pioneers to their ninth straight win.

Stillwater, 9-2, scored on the first play from scrimmage and built a 21-0 lead after one quarter. While the eighth-ranked Pirates saw drives stall, the onslaught was on, helped by a two Putnam City turnovers.

Late in the third quarter, the Pirates got on the board when senior quarterback Judson Keefer connected with senior wideout Ethan Scott for a 62-yard touchdown.

Keeefer threw for 193 yards, completing 19-of-29 passes. Sophomore Visanio Boyd was Keefer’s favorite target with 10 catches and 92 yards. The Pirate running game was held to 76 yards, Senior Elijah Asberry had 55 of those yards on 13 carries.

Junior linebacker Brayden Knox led the defense with eight tackles, one for a loss. Asberry and fellow junior Johnn Sheffey each had seven tackles. Sheffey had one tackle for loss. Sophomore DJ Ackerson had five tackles, one for loss.

The defending state champions amassed 602 yards of total offense. The Pioneers advance to the 6A-II semifinals where they will meet Choctaw, a team they beat last year for the title.
