FREDERICK — Putnam City outhit 2A-2 Frederick Saturday (May 2) but a two-out rally and Pirate errors doomed Original in a 6-3 loss to end the regular season.

The Bombers scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning but PC answered in the top of the second.

The Pirates loaded the bases with singles from freshman Dylan Grigsby and senior Judd Quanstrom with a walk to sophomore Gabe Krueger in between. With two outs, sophomore MJ Petties and junior Bryson Vanover singled for a 3-2 lead.

In the fourth inning, Petties relieved senior Justin Knight and got a groundout and pop out to lead off the inning. Two walks and a hit batsman loaded the bases. Frederick junior Ethan Garza followed with a two-run double. Then, a Pirate error led to two more runs.

Original went in order in the top of the fifth inning to end the shortened game.

Petties, Vanover, Grigsby, Quanstrom and senior Brandon Bennett each had a hit in the loss.

On the mound, Knight struck out six in three innings of work. He allowed three hits, one earned run and walked two. Petties was tagged with the loss. He gave up a hit and three walks. Only two of the four runs he allowed were earned.

UP NEXT

Putnam City (4-31) will compete in the 6A regional playoffs next week.
