WARR ACRES — Putnam City had three wrestlers sign to area junior colleges to continue their career. The three made it official Wednesday (April 29).
Blake Stephenson and Talon Hall inked with Rose State College. Frank Arriola is going to Murray State.
Stephenson earned a state berth at 215 pounds Hall missed out on a state berth after dealing with injuries most of his senior season. He wrestles at 190 pounds.
Arriola was a captain for Original and qualified for state at 150 pounds.
“These last two seasons have been historic for our team,” Putnam City coach Mike Walkup said via text. “We have qualified 10 boys over the last two seasons and have now signed seven boys to college over the same period of time. Furthermore, for the first time ever, our men’s team was awarded the Distinguished Academic Award for our men’s varsity team GPA average being above a 3.5!
“These three young men have been pillars in our program for 4+ years. They have also been exceptional students, all carrying above a 3.0 GPA. Each of them has been a state qualifier in 6A which is extremely difficult to accomplish. Due to their commitment over the last four years, they have each earned a spot on a college roster!”
