BETHANY — Bethany freshman Kory Draper-Whitener struck out 10 batters in the Bronchos’ 9-3 win over Western Heights Thursday (April 16) for Bethany’s Senior Night.

Draper-Whitener pitched a complete game. He allowed four hits and three runs, two of which were earned). Draper-Whitener walked one batter and hit a batter.

Bethany built a 3-0 lead early in the contest.

In the first inning, sophomore Cooper Suarez led off by lining a single to center field. Junior Cooper Willis was hit by a pitch. Suarez stole second and third base and scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by freshman Jayden Rose. Junior Connor Sydnes singled Willis home to make it 2-0.

In the second inning, Willis’ two-out double scored junior Damyen Aguilar, who had walked.

The Jets answered with three runs in the top of the third inning.

Senior Keziah Howell reached on an error and fellow senior Connor Logsdon had an infield hit. Senior Akin Aguillard grounded into a fielder’s choice but the Bronchos couldn’t get an out which loaded the bases. Howell and Logsdon scored on freshman Hunter Rule’s single to left field.

Aguillard scored on a groundout fielder’s choice to tie the game.

Bethany took the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning.

Synes led off the inning with a single. Junior Ozzie Brown walked and sophomore bunted for a single.

With the bases loaded, freshman Maximus Loyd reached on an infield error which scored Sydnes. Senior Trip Williams walked in a run. Aguilar grounded out, which scored Burleson.

Suarez also grounded out, which scored freshman Brody Wright, a courtesy runner for Brown to make it 7-3.

Draper-Whitener retired the next six Jets in a row and Bethany added to the lead in the fourth inning.

With two outs, Williams singled to center field. That scored Sydnes, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Aguilar added a single that scored Brown, who had walked.

Sydnes had a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored and an RBI.

Suarez, Willis, Burleson, Loyd, Williams and Aguilar each had a hit. Williams and Aguilar each drove in two runs.

Bethany took advantage of six walks and five hit batsmen in the win.

For the Jets, Logsdon was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Rule went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in. Sophomore J.J. Bradley had a 1-for-3 day.

UP NEXT

Bethany (14-9, 8-4) travels to Purcell (17-7, 8-4) Monday (April 20) to begin a 4A-3 series.

The Dragons beat Ardmore 10-2 on Thursday. Purcell travels to Tecumseh Friday (April 17) before playing the Bronchos.

Western Heights (4-12, 0-10) travels to Destiny Christian (11-8) Friday.

The Wildcats earned a 4-1 win over the OKC Mets Tuesday.
