EDMOND — Putnam City North scored three runs in the first inning and held on to beat Edmond North, 3-2, Thursday (Sept. 25) in the 6A-1 finale for the Panthers.

Putnam City North coach D’Antae Mitchell said he was proud of squad.

“That was a good team win,” Mitchell said via text. “Both of my pitchers went to work (junior Presley Standrige and senior Jayda Stevenson).”

In the first inning, the Panthers collected three hits in the first inning and plated three runs. Edmond North got a run back in the bottom half of the first inning and scored another run in the sixth.

The Huskies had a baserunner in the seventh inning, but they couldn’t score another run.

Stevenson was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in.

Junior Laila Willoby-Taylor and freshman Amaya Frazier each added a 1-for-3 performance.

In the circle, Standridge allowed one hit and one run over two innings. She walked three batters. Stevenson pitched the final five innings. She allowed two hits and a run. She struck out three.

Mtchell was pleased with the energy from his team.

“The dugouts was rocking.”

He also praised his outfielders, senior Mikala Coats, Willoby-Taylor and Frazier.

“I’m just so happy for my team they deserve this win they really did!!!!!!”
