EDMOND — A six-run third inning broke a tie and sent Edmond Memorial to a 12-2 win over Putnam City North Tuesday (Sept. 23) in a 6A-1 contest.
North struck first with two runs in the first inning. Sophomore Kayleigh Andrews led off the game with a single. Junior Presley Standridge laid down a bunt and reached safely on an error. The error sent Andrews to third base.
Andrews scored on a passed ball for the first run while Andrews sprinted to third base.
Junior Savannah Martinez grounded out which scored Andrews.
From there, the Panther bats went silent. Edmond Memorial scored single runs in the first and second innings to tie the game at 2-2.
In the third inning, the Bulldogs put together a big inning. Edmond Memorial had two singles, four walks and took advantage of three North errors to plate six runs to pull away.
Andrews’ hit was the only one the Panthers managed all day. North had three walks (Andrews, Willoby and junior Kayla Orton).
Because of the errors, only six of the 12 runs allowed by North pitching were earned.
Senior Jayda Stevenson struck out four batters and walked five in three innings to take the loss.
