WOODWARD — Bethany made its second trip to Woodward in nine days to finish a game with the Boomers. The Bronchos picked up a 4-0 win Wednesday (Sept. 17) in a 4A-3 matchup.

Bethany led Woodward, 1-0, after a RBI-single from senior Maddison McNutt scored freshman Avery Bibbs in third inning on Sept. 8. At that point, a storm forced the game stop.

On Wednesday, the Bronchos started fast after the game resumed. Bethany had a trio of doubles in the fourth inning from McNutt, junior Jules Barger and freshman Rian Rollins to extend the lead to 4-0.

“Happy with how we handled the oddity of a game like that,” Bethany coach Booker Blakley said via text. “Scoring three runs in our first at-bat of the day really helped set the tone. Pitching and defense did a solid job keeping them from threatening.”

Senior Paige Sechrist tossed seven shutout innings. She allowed five hits, three walks and struck out eight batters in the win.

Barger and Sechrist were each 2-for-4. McNutt finished 2-for-3 with two runs batted in.

Senior Madison Bibbs, Rollins and junior Grey Williamson each had a hit in the win.

The Bronchos improved to 5-2 in district play with the win. They moved to second place behind leader Elk City at 10-0. Bethany is ahead of Weatherford (5-3), Kingfisher (5-4) and Woodward (4-4). Bethany has five district games remaining, including matchups against Weatherford, Kingfisher and Elk City.
