BETHANY — Guthrie scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat Bethany, 7-5, Saturday (Sept. 6) in the championship game of the Bethany Softball Tournament.

Guthrie’s runs in the top of the eighth inning, broke a 4-4 tie for the 5A Blue Jays, now 6-9. Guthrie had two doubles, a single, a sacrifice bunt in the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, junior Grey Williamson singled in fellow junior Jules Barger with two outs to pull within two runs, 7-5.

“Thought we played pretty well just some mistakes at the wrong times cost us,” Bethany coach Booker Blakley said via text. “Battled hard against a 5A state tournament level team.”

Senior Madison Bibbs was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Williamson was also 2-for-4. She drove in a run. Barger, freshman Rian Rollins, senior Emma Buxton junior Ella Davis each had a hit. Rollins’ hit was an RBI-double.

“(We) hit the ball well, encouraging sign going forward,” Blakely said.

Bethay committed four errors. Of the seven runs allowed by seniors Paige Sechrist and Jayda Davis in the circle, only four were earned runs.

UP NEXT

Bethany (7-9, 1-1) travels to Woodward (11-2, 2-2) Monday (Sept. 8) at 5 p.m. in a 4A-3 matchup.

The Boomers beat Class A Garber, 8-0, Saturday at the Fairview Northwest Shootout.
