SHAWNEE — Putnam City North’s offense was productive Friday (Aug. 22) but 5A Shawnee swept a doubleheader, 7-5 and 8-6.

SHAWNEE 7, PUTNAM CITY NORTH 5

A five-run third inning from Shawnee broke a 2-2 tie and was too much for North to overcome.

The Panthers lost, despite outhitting Shawnee, 9-4.

Junior Savannah Martinez was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Juniors Kayla Orton, Laila Willoby, Kayleigh Andrews, Kaelyn Staden, seniors Addison Patterson, Jayda Stevenson and freshman Amaya Frazier each had a hit in the loss.

Frazier, Patterson, Andrews and Willoby had doubles. The Panthers struck out 10 times.

SHAWNEE 8, PUTNAM CITY NORTH 6

The third inning sunk the Panthers again.

North led, 4-0, when Shawnee tied it in the third with four runs to tie the game. The Wolves scored four more runs in the fourth to take the lead.

Again, North outhit Shawnee, 12-4. The Panthers did commit four errors.

Stevenson was 3-for-3 with two doubles. Staden went 2-for-3 with a double.

Junior Presley Standridge was 2-for-4 and was Martinez. Standridge’s hit was a double.

Andrews, Willoby and Frazier each had hits. Willoby’s hit was a double.

Stevenson struck out four batters over 3 1/3 innings. Of the seven runs she gave up, only three were earned runs.
