Putnam City junior Rogerick Sloan and Piedmont senior Jayden Fuston each had big days on the ground Friday (Nov. 8) in the rain in the Wildcats’ 21-14 win.

Sloan more than matched Fuston on the ground, officially rushing for 200 yards on 25 carries with one score. Sloan did lose a fumble in the loss. Fuston had 134 yards and a touchdown.

Sophomore Denymn Friday completed 3-of-11 passes for 17 yards. He did have a 13-yard touchdown pass from junior Visanio Boyd, Jr.

Besides Boyd, junior Savion James had a 2-yard catch as did senior Caden Hatlelid.

Sophomore defensive back Gabriel Osborne led the team with 12 tackles with three for a loss. Senior Johnn Sheffey followed with 11 tackles and two for a loss. Fellow senior Sy Phipps had nine tackles (one for a loss). Another senior, Michael Exum, collected seven tackles with one for a loss and a sack.

Senior linebacker Brayden Knox had four tackles with one for a loss before leaving the game with an ankle injury.

Osborne added a fumble recovery and junior Thomas Stone recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for the Pirates’ first score.

NEXT OPPONENT: Bartlesville

The Bruins (3-7, 3-4) enter the playoffs after winning their final three games of the season after an 0-7 start.

The three wins include a 30-20 win over Ponca City and blowout wins over Putnam City West (40-9) and Capitol Hill (62-0).

Bartlesville was averaging 16.8 points a game through the first nine games of the season and 258.5 yards a game.
