YUKON – The Yukon Lady Millers poured in 11 hits and built an early lead en route to a 13-1 win in five innings over Putnam City North Thursday (Sept. 26).

Yukon scored five runs in the first inning on three hits, two walks, a hit by pitch and an error. Yukon’s Yani Mitchell was hit by the pitch and twin sister Liyah Mitchell had one of the doubles. Both players are the daughter of Putnam City North coach D’Antae Mitchell.

Yukon added four more runs in the second on four hits and two walks to build a 9-0 lead.

North got on the scoreboard in the third inning. Senior Monica Coats tripled to right fielder, scoring fellow senior Raya Shawareb, who walked with two outs.

The Lady Millers scored another run in the third and three runs in the fourth inning.

“Tough environment the girls stayed strong and fought hard,”Mitchell said via text. “We struggled hitting big time and it made it hard for our defense to have to play behind the eight ball.”

North was held to three hits. In addition to Monica Coats’ triple, freshman Kaleigh Andrews and senior Aubrey Miller each had singles.

Putnam City North issued six walks in the loss.
