Wildcats claw Pirates in district sweep

Ponca City swept a 6A-3 doubleheader with Putnam City Monday (April 13).

PONCA CITY 9, PUTNAM CITY 2

The Pirates got their lone hit and two runs in the third inning.

With one out, Jordan Thomas reached on an error. Freshman Dylan Grigsby moved Thomas to second with a sacrifice bunt. Sophomore MJ Petties singled to left field, moving Thomas to third.

Senior Justin Knight reached base on an error. Thomas and Petties scored.

The Wildcats scored four runs each in the second and fifth innings.

Knight allowed five hits and one earned run in four innings on the mound. Knight walked two batters and struck out seven.

PC has three errors in the loss.

Ponca City built a 10-0 lead after two innings in the blowout win.

Petties, Knight and junior Jared Potter each had a hit. Pettie’s hit was a double.

Pirate pitching walked 14 batters in the loss.
