OKLAHOMA CITY — Putnam City West senior Ezequiel Hernandez went 3-for-3 and the Patriots scored six runs in the second inning of a 12-7 win over sister school Putnam City North Friday (April 10) at the Northwest Optimist Darrel Palmer Classic.

“Hernandez swung the bat well,” West coach Grason Wright said via text. Hernandez had a double, two runs batted and two walks.

Junior Aaron De Loera had a 2-for-3 day with a double and an RBI.

“De Loera does what he does best and kept his bat hot today,” Wright said.

Sophomore Cadence Smith had a double and three walks. Freshman Riley Axtell added a bases-clearing triple.

On the mound, Axtell threw six innings. He allowed eights hits and three earned runs. Axtell walked two and struck out five.

“Axtell threw a great game for us,” Wright said. “He spotted up well and kept them off balance all game. He ran into trouble at times but minimized when he needed to.”

“Overall good team win over our sister school, I know Coach (Greg) Johnson at North does a great job with his kids.”

The Panthers outhit West and scored five runs over the final three innings.

North senior Austin Guerrero went 2-for4 with a double and two runs scored. The Panthers also got hits from seniors Xavier Sarkey, Alfredo Renteria, Reece Hubble, JaQuari Dansby, Owen Attebery and junior Tyson Meyers.

Meyers had a double and Dansby tripled.

UP NEXT

West (9-10) meets 4A Bethany (12-7) in the consolation final Saturday (April 11) at 1 p.m.

North (2-18) faces Putnam City (3-21) at 10 a.m.
