

OKLAHOMA CITY — Putnam City North overcame a sixth-inning deficit with nine runs en route to a 15-7 run-rule win of rival Putnam City West Friday (March 27).

“It was a good win,” Putnam City North coach Greg Johnson said via text. “We had some timely hits and executed well at the plate. We were able to keep innings going which help get us momentum. Our pitchers were able to stay away from the big inning defensively. Good team effort and good energy.”
North took a 4-0 lead in the second inning, keyed by doubles from junior Treague Ferguson and senior Austin Guerrero.
West scored two runs in the third after loading the bases. The Panthers answered in the bottom half of the inning with a 2-run double from senior Xavier Sarkey to make it 6-2.
The Patriots chipped away. West got a run in the fourth. Senior Kasen Jones had a lead off double. Freshman Riley Axtell singled and Jones scored on an error from North senior JaQuari Dansby.
In the fifth inning, West picked up another run after loading the bases on an error, hit by pitch and a walk. Sophomore Malachi Ferguson hit into a fielder’s choice and sophomore Cadence Smith scored to make it 6-4.
The Patriots mounted a two-out rally in the sixth inning. Mason and junior Aaron De Loera walked. Smith cleared the bases with a double to left field to tie the game at 6. Smith scored on a single from junior Daniel Hoyt to give West a 7-6 lead.
The floodgates opened for North in the bottom half of the inning. Panther batters walked six times and another was hit by a pitch. North also had six singles in the outburst to secure the run-rule win.
Sarkey was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in. Ferguson was 2-for-3 with two doubles, and two RBIs.Seniors Guerrero, Reece Hubble, Xayvion Jones, Owen Attebery and junior Devin Orton each had a hit.
The Panthers had 10 hits and walked 10 times.
For the Patriots, De Loera was 2-for-3 with a double. Smith, senior Ezequiel Hernandez, Hoyt, Jones, Axtell and sophomore Angelo White each had hits.
North senior Alfredo Renteria got a no-decision after four innings of work. He allowed six hits and three runs. Renteria walked two batters and struck out four.
Guerrero picked up the win after two innings of 2-hit ball. Guerrero allowed three earned runs. He walked three batters.
The Patriots’ Smith pitched 4 2/3 innings. He allowed six hits and six runs. Smith walked three batters and struck out three. Junior Anthony Dupree took the loss after an inning of work, three hits, nine runs. Dupree walked five batters and struck out one.
Sophomore Chris Ponce walked two batters and gave up a hit that drove in the final run of the run-rule contest.

Putnam City North (2-10, 0-4) hosts Muskogee (4-10, 0-4) Monday (March 30) in a 6A-4 matchup.
The Roughers lost to 5A Coweta 15-3 on Friday.
Putnam City West (4-6, 0-4) hosts Lawton Eisenhower (2-11, 0-4) Monday (March 30) in a 6A-1 contest.
The Eagles have lost five straight games, including a 7-3 contest to 4A Cache Friday in the Bo Bowman Tournament in Lawton. Ike meets Burkburnett (Texas) Saturday at 11 a.m. before Monday’s game with West.
