BETHANY — The Bronchos scored early in a 6-0 shutout over Santa Fe South Thursday (March 26) on the first day of the Bryson Cael Memorial Festival.

Bethany used a two-out rally to take a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Junior Ozzie Brown was hit by a pitch. Fellow junior Connor Sydnes singled to center field. Freshman Jayden Rose singled home freshman Malachi Othon (who was running for the catcher Brown). Sophomore Cooper Suarez hit a two-run double to center field for a 3-0 lead. After a bunt single from sophomore Cruz Burleson, freshman Brody Wright (who was running for Suarez) scored on a wild pitch.

The Bronchos added two more runs in a two-out rally in the second inning. Junior Cooper Willis reached on an error and Brown walked. Willis went to third base on a wild pitch and scored on an error.

Othon, running for Brown again, stole second base, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Sydnes single for the 6-0 lead.

On the mound, Suarez earned the win. He allowed three hits over four innings. Suarez walked three batters and struck out five. Senior Karter Thomas added a hitless fifth inning with a walk and two strikeouts. Junior Damyen Aguilar also threw a hitless inning with two walks and two strikeouts.

Sydnes and Rose went 2-for-3. Suarez and Burleson each had hits. Suarez stole two bases.

UP NEXT

Bethany (5-4) meets El Reno Friday (March 27) at 6:30 p.m.

The Indians (5-5) opened the festival with a 5-4 win over Putnam City on Thursday.
