Putnam City’s three high schools will be playing for more than bragging rights this fall.
All three football squads will be in District 1 of 6A-II. The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association voted to approve the new alignment Wednesday (March 25)
Last season, West and North competed in the same district while Putnam City was in the other district.
The Pirates (9-3) fell in the state semifinals to eventual champion Sand Springs. Putnam City North (2-9) fell in the first round to Choctaw. Putnam City West struggled to a 1-9 finish and did’t qualify for the playoffs.
District 1 also includes Choctaw (9-5), who fell to Sand Springs in the state title game. Lawton Eisenhower struggled at 1-9. Norman moves down from 6A-I. The Tigers were 6-5 last season in the same district as 6A-I champion Bixby. Piedmont (8-4) rounds out the district. The Wildcats lost to Sand Springs in the 6A-II quarterfinals last season.
District 2 is short two teams after the Capitol Hill sought and won approval to compete as an independent. Northwest Classen and U.S. Grant also asked to play an independent schedule but were denied in February. Neither team was listed in a district. That also left 6A-II-1 one short as well.
| 6A-II-1 | 6A-II-2 |
|---|---|
| Choctaw | Bartlesville |
| Lawton Eisenhower | Booker T. Washington |
| Norman | Muskogee |
| Piedmont | Ponca City |
| Putnam City | Sand Springs |

BRONCHOS AND JETS IN SEPARATE 4A DISTRICTS
Bethany moves from District 2 to District 1 in 4A. The Bronchos struggled at 5-6. Their 3-3 district mark earned a playoff spot where they were eliminated by eventual state runner-up Elgin.
Other teams in District 1 include Cache (4-6 and missed the playoffs last season), Clinton (4-7 and fell in the opening round to eventual state champion Tuttle), Douglass (4-6 and missed the playoffs), Elk City (5-6 and lost to Ardmore in the first round), Weatherford (9-3 and lost to Broken Bow in the quarterfinals) and Woodward (3-7 and missed the playoffs).
4A-1 is missing a school after John Marshall petitioned to play an independent schedule after playing in 5A last season. The OSSAA denied their request but it appears the Bears have opted out of district play.
in 4A-2, the Jets (0-10) make the move down after the last two years in 5A. Prior to that, Western Heights played two seasons as an independent while trying to rebuild the program. Besides their independent stint, the Jets have been a 5A football school since moving up from 4A in 1992.
Ardmore will be in 4A-2 with the Jets. The Tigers (8-4) lost to Cushing in the quarterfinals last season. Blanchard (5-6) fell to Weatherford in the first round. Bridge Creek (1-9) missed the playoffs. Chickasha (2-8) also missed the playoffs. Harrah (6-4) made some noise late in the season before their losing their final two games to miss the playoffs. Tecumseh (3-7) also missed the playoffs.
