STROUD — Bethany got its rematch with Weatherford Saturday (March 7) in the 4A Area I Consolation Final but Dasia Givens was too much and the Bronchos shot poorly in a 39-30 loss to end the season.
“I thought we did a fairly good job defensively. The effort was there and the game plan,” Bethany coach Eric Sailer said via text.
Givens, the senior guard, poured in 26 points to help the Eagles advance to the state tournament.
“Offensively when you struggle to score it puts more pressure on your defensive possession. We have to be able to score around the basket every night. Tonight was not our night for that,” Sailer said. ” After a great shooting night (against Verdigris), we were not as accurate.”
Broncho junior Camryn Regier scored 13 points. Regier had six points in the second quarter as Bethany stayed close and five points in the fourth quarter. She had two 3-pointers.
Weatherford widened a 16-13 halftime lead in the third quarter, outscoring Bethany, 14-6. The Bronchos got treys from senior Maddison McNutt and junior Ali Linn in the period.
Linn finished with nine points and Maddison McNutt had five points.
“I was proud of our girls for fighting hard all season long,” Sailer said. The squad came within a game of a fourth straight state berth.
Sailer also praised his senior group, including guards McKenna Calderon, Maddison McNutt, Reese Harris and forward Madison Bibbs.
“We will miss this senior group!!! They have made a 4-year run like none other over their four year careers at Bethany.”
Over the last four years, the Bronchos have a 100-17 record with two 4A state championships and a state tournament appearance.
