STROUD — Bethany coach Eric Sailer will get his wish.

The eighth-ranked Bronchos earned a 57-29 rout of Verdigris Friday (March 5) in the 4A Area I playoffs.

Their opponent for the Area consolation final Saturday night is ninth-ranked Weatherford, the team that knocked off Bethany last weekend in the regional final.

After that game, Sailer said he hoped for rematch with the Eagles.

Sailer was concerned about the quick turnaround from the Bronchos’ buzzer-beater win over Grove Thursday.

“We did not have much time to rest up and be ready, but I was proud of how the girls did not complain about it. They were focused and ready for the challenge.”

There was no need for late game heroics as Bethany pulled away in the second quarter.

The Bronchos were better from the 3-point line, hitting 8 of 21 shots. “When those shots are falling it gives us the extra energy to push thru!!” Sailer said.

Bethany got big treys from seniors McKenna Calderon and Reese Harris in the first half.

The Cardinals shot 32 percent for the game and didn’t get an offensive rebound. Verdigris also turned the ball over 17 times.

“We did a great job of defending their shooters today,” Sailer said. “Great defensive effort.”

Bethany had 11 turnovers and shot 44 percent from the floor.

“We also did a better job of handling the ball. Playoff basketball is about valuing possessions, defending at a high level, and understanding situational basketball. We did well in all three areas today.”

Junior Camryn Regier notched a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Regier was 10-of-20 from the field and had three steals.

Harris finished with 12 points, four assists and four rebounds. Harris was 4-of-6 from the 3-point line.

Calderon had six points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Sophomore Kamryn Donley and senior Madison Bibbs each had four points.
