WEATHERFORD — Bethany advanced to the 4A area playoffs with a 66-40 win over Woodward Saturday (Feb. 28) in the consolation round of Area I.
“Great team win!” Bethany coach Josh Holliday said via text. “Super proud of our togetherness, just a bunch of unselfish guys out there making plays for each other and guarding as one on the other end. We are grateful to be playing another week.”
Sophomore Rhett Brobston scored 13 points, including 10 points in the second quarter alone in what Holliday described as a “great” performance. Brobston drilled three 3-pointers.
Fellow sophomore Breck Brady added 12 points and Holliday said Brady “was a monster on the boards” for the Bronchos.
Senior Seth Greiner had seven of his nine points in the first quarter as Bethany built a double-digit lead.
Senior Denton Jaggers added eight points but it was his defensive assignment the Boomers’ Kaidon Gaines that drew praise from his coach.
“He made (Gaines) earn every bit of the 31-point game he had,” Holliday said.
The Woodward sophomore hit four treys in the contest and scored 24 points in the second half.
