


EDMOND — Putnam City North’s boys swim team finished seventh overall with 120 points at the 6A State Swimming Championship Saturday (Feb. 21), paced by a pair of top-five individual finishes and two relay team performances.
Junior Colin Turbayne led the way for the Panthers individually, placing fourth in the 50 yard freestyle with a finals time of 22.24 and fifth in the 100 yard freestyle in 50.04.
Junior Brody Cunningham added an eighth-place finish in the 100 freestyle (50.59), and senior Luke Engelmann was 10th in the same event (51.23).
Engelmann also qualified for the 100 butterfly finals but did not swim.
Sophomore Xander Applegate picked up a sixth-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.35.
North’s relay teams also contributed to the team total. The Panthers’ 200 freestyle relay squad took third place with a time of 1:28.95, just 0.64 from the first place team. The 400 freestyle relay team came in fifth at 3:19.65.
On the girls side, junior Scarlet Mathis of Putnam City North competed in the 100 backstroke, posting a time of 1:09.86 in the preliminaries but did not advance to the finals. Putnam City senior Mya Avdalovic also swam the 100 backstroke, reaching the finals and finishing 15th with a time of 1:06.07.
