
EDMOND — The Bethany girls swim team turned in a strong performance at the 5A State Swimming Championship Friday and Saturday (Feb. 20-21), finishing 11th overall with 74 points — highlighted by a pair of top-five finishes from freshman Brooklyn England.
England placed fourth in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 58.17, earning 15 points, and added a fifth-place finish in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:07.77 for 14 more points.
Sophomore Mary Hoisington competed in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing 16th with a time of 2:26.33 to score one point for the Bronchos.
Freshman Emma Blood swam in the preliminaries of the 100 breaststroke, posting a 1:33.68, but did not advance to the finals.
Bethany’s relay teams also contributed to the team score. The girls 200 freestyle relay placed sixth in a time of 1:57.02 for 26 points, and the 400 freestyle relay finished ninth in 4:34.38 to add 18 more.
On the boys side, Bethany’s 200 freestyle relay team placed 14th with a time of 2:09.28, accounting for six points and a 25th-place team finish.
