ANADARKO — Bethany junior Camryn Regier unloaded 30 points on 3A eighth-ranked Anadarko in a 50-36 win Friday (Feb. 6) in Western Athletic Conference play.
“The girls did a good job of finding Cam in open areas,” Bethany coach Eric Sailer said via text. “(Maddison) McNutt and McKenna (Calderon) did an amazing job of that.”
Regier scored 13 of her point total in the second quarter as the 4A eighth-ranked Bronchos grew an 8-6 lead at the end of the first quarter into a 24-12 lead by halftime.
“Cam did a great job of scoring the ball and knocking down free throws,” Sailer said.
Reiger shot 37 percent from the field and was 10-of-12 from the line.
She also picked up a double-double with 13 rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.
Junior Ali Linn added 11 points, a 3-pointer, seven rebounds, an assist and two steals.
Linn was 4-of-6 from the free throw line. While she shot just 18 percent from the field, Sailer said Linn “scored at the rim well.”
Maddison McNutt didn’t score but dished out six assists and had four steals.
“McNutt’s ability to take care of the ball helped us to victory!” Sailer said.
The Bronchos out-rebounded Anadarko, 42-11.
“We owned the boards tonight!!! Sailer said. “That was a huge reason why we left with a win tonight!”
Bethany shot just 26 percent but they had 11 steals and Anadrko committed 19 turnovers. The Warriors also missed 11 free throws.
Sailer also praise Madison Bibbs for her defensive play, saying that it “frustrated their ball handlers.”
“Any time you can get a win at Anadarko, that is a great win!!!” Sailer said. “I can remember many long road trips home on the bus after Anadarko beat us pretty good!!!”
Sailer assessed his team’s progress with three regular season games remaining.
“By any means we are not perfect, but we feel like we are figuring somethings out along the way. We have to be able to keep the ball moving to find open shooters when they send double and triple teams. We have to be able to defend at a high level on the perimeter, running shooters off of the line. We have to continue to develop our bench so they can find success as well vs tough competition.”
Anadarko junior True Kelley finished with 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting before fouling out.
