OKLAHOMA CITY — Putnam City West lost a big lead in the fourth quarter but hung on to Lawton Eisenhower, 70-69, Tuesday (Jan. 20) in a 6A-1 contest.

West held the Eagles scoreless in the first quarter and had a 54-31 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Leading 69-64 with just under a minute, the Patriots passed the ball around for nearly 30 seconds before an Ike foul.

After two missed free throws, the Eagles got a bucket on the other end. Again, Ike was forced to foul. Senior Demetrice Carter hit the back end of two free throws to make it 70-66 with 12. 9 seconds remaining.

Ike junior Adrian Brown drained a 3-pointer but time expired soon after for the West win.

Carter finished with a game-high 16 points, including nine points in the fourth quarter. Senior Quavion Wheeler added 14 points, including two treys. Wheeler scored half of his points in the third quarter.

Junior Andre Farrar scored 13 points and sophomore Earl Smith had 11 points.

UP NEXT

West (9-5, 5-3) hosts U.S. Grant next Tuesday (Jan. 27) at 7:30 p.m. in a non-district matchup.

The Generals (10-2) beat Sapulpa, 77-63, Tuesday. U.S. Grant plays in the Newcastle Sweet Pea Tournament which begins Wednesday.
