WARR ACRES — Putnam City had two players score in double-figures and surged in the second half past Norman North, 53-44, Tuesday (Jan. 20) in a 6A-1 contest.

The Pirates trailed, 30-23, at halftime but then outscored the Timberwolves 10-3 in the third quarter.

“Proud of the kids for bouncing back in a big way,” Putnam City coach Brian Booker said via text. “We played our worst game of the year on Friday.

“We started off sluggish (against Norman North). We could’ve let that get us down but we didn’t. We played our best defensive half of the year in the second half. Hopefully we can build of this momentum.”

Junior Myron Cooper scored a game-high 19 points, including 10 points in the second half. Cooper had one 3-pointer.

Senior Mitchell Taylor added 10 points, including a fourth-quarter trey.

UP NEXT

The Pirates (3-12) play 5A Newcastle Wednesday (Jan. 21) at 8:30 p.m. to finish the first day of the Newcastle Sweet Pea Tournament.

The Racers (13-2) beat Duncan, 63-33, Tuesday.
