HULBERT — Bethany used a fourth-quarter surge to beat Grove 45-31 Friday (Jan. 9) in the semifinals of the Lake Regional Electric Cooperative Hulbert Invitational.

Broncho junior Camryn Reiger scored a game-high 20 points, with eight of those in the fourth quarter. Regier had seven rebounds, five steals, two blocked shots and an assist.

Bethany had a 20-14 lead at halftime but struggled in the third quarter and led by just a point, 26-25, heading into the fourth quarter.

“Cam (Regier) was able to score from the free throw line and late in the game hit a big shots for us,” Bethany coach Eric Sailer said via text.

A day after sinking 16 3-pointers, the Bronchos struggled, going 2-of-12 from the 3-point line. Overall, the Bronchos shot 26 percent from the field.

Bethany also turned the ball over 24 times.

“We did not take care of the ball,” Sailer said. “Credit Grove for causing us to turn the ball over.”

Despite the struggles, Grove also shot 26 percent from the field. The Bronchos outrebounded the Ridgerunners, 32-23.

Grove also turned the ball over 31 times, 20 off Bethany steals.

Senior Madison Bibbs added eight points, going 3-of-4 from the field. Bibbs had six rebounds.

“Madison Bibbs really accepted the challenge of defending their best player and limiting her touches!”

Junior Ali Linn struggled shooting and finished with five points. Sailer praised Linn, who had 11 rebounds and five steals.

UP NEXT

Bethany (9-2) plays 3A Westville Saturday (Jan. 10) at 7 p.m. for the tournament title.

The Yellowjackets (9-3) beat tournament host Hulbert, 51-37, Friday.

“We will have a tough one versus Westville tomorrow!!! We must be better,” Sailer said.
