DALLAS — Putnam City North senior Jayla Constant scored 25 points as the Panthers downed Houston Kincaid, 62-51, Wednesday (Dec. 31) to win the Dr. Pepper Holiday Invitational.

The win capped off a sweep in north Texas for North, who won all four games by double digits. The average win was by 17 points and included wins over the defending 4A-II Texas state champion in Dallas Lincoln Tuesday and Kincaid, who won the private school Southwest Preparatory Conference title last season.

Constant was named the tournament’s most valuable player. The UNLV signee averaged 15.7 points a game during the tournament.

Fellow senior Kiana Gray was named to the All-Tournament team. Gray scored eight points with two 3-pointers Wednesday. Gray averaged 11.2 points a contest over the week. She sank seven treys over the three days.

Senior Da’Nae Jefferson added 13 points, 10 in the second half. Jefferson and Constant combined to go 9-of-9 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter when the Panthers stretched a 6-point lead (44-38) to a double-digit win.

Seniors Tehlia Kutsoati and Paige Williams each scored five points in the win.

Junior Richiya Miller added a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter as North pulled away. Junior Demy Howard and Senior Makiya Moore each added a bucket.

UP NEXT

North (12-1, 3-0) travels to Muskogee for a rare Saturday 6A-3 matchup (Jan. 3) with the Roughers (5-2, 3-0). Muskogee beat Piedmont, 68-44, Wednesday on the final day of the Bank 7 Mustang Holiday Classic.
