LAS VEGAS — Putnam City North’s winning streak ended at 28 games with a 66-51 loss to Bishop Gorman (Nev.) Monday (Dec. 22) in the Jerry Tarkanian Classic at Orleans Arena.

The Gaels (6-1) ended the Panthers’ streak with senior Aaliah Spaight, a Texas commit, scoring 25 points. Spaight helped build a 12-11 lead in the first quarter, going 7-of-8 from the free throw line. She added three 3-pointers (including two treys in the third quarter).

Senior Kiana Gray paced North with 15 points. Gray sank three 3-pointers in the third quarter. She scored 11 of North’s 19 points in the quarters as the Panthers tried to claw out of the hole.

Senior D’Nae Jefferson added 10 points. Fellow senior Jayla Constant, a UNLV signee, scored eight points (all in the first half).

The setback was North’s first loss in 373 days. The Panthers’ last defeat was against Norman on Dec. 14, 2024, a 65-62 loss in the finals of the Joe Lawson Memorial Invitational. North beat Norman in a district contest three days later to start their string, en route to winning the 6A state title.

UP NEXT

North (7-1) faces Clayton Valley Charter (Calif.) Tuesday (Dec. 23) at 1:20 p.m. Pacific in the third place game of the Tarkanian Classic.

The Ugly Eagles (3-3) fell 64-32 to the other winner in the semifinals, Etiwanda (Calif.).

Last season, Clayton Valley Charter was 21-9 and fell in the California Division 1 North Coast Section Championship.

The school out of Concord, Calif, is well known for its Ugly Eagle mascot, sometimes known as the Uglies.
