Putnam City will play three of its last four games at Pirate Stadium to wind up 6A-II-1 play and the regular season.

After Thursday’s home matchup with U.S. Grant, the second-ranked Pirates (5-1, 3-0) travel to Stillwater (5-1, 3-0), top-ranked in the Associated Press high school football poll. They wind up October with Southmoore (4-2, 2-1), who received votes in the poll, and finish the regular season by hosting fifth-ranked Piedmont (4-2, 2-1).

It will be the PC’s toughest stretch of football in the regular season but they’ll enjoy home field advantage for most of it.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Through six games, senior quarterback CJ Turnbull has thrown for 1,019 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has completed 64 percent of his passes and has only one interception.

Turnbull has also rushed for 403 yards with nine rushing scores.

Fellow senior Rodgerick Sloan, Jr. has added 294 yards and four touchdowns. Junior Kahmi Herrera has been in the mix with 189 yards and a touchdown.

As one might expect, senior receiver Savion James leads the team with 13 catches, 357 yards and six touchdowns. Sloan has also been a factor catching the ball with 11 catches, 293 yards and three scores.

Senior Mitchell Taylor has emerged as a weapon for Turnbull with 12 catches, 162 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Shawn Jones III added 10 catches, 104 yards and two scores.

With a lot of new starters on the Pirate defense, has allowed 89 points in six games, A majority of those points came in the opening 48-35 loss to 6A-I Yukon.

Junior Evan Metoyer paces PC with 43 tackles. Senior Deshawn Buford follows with 41 tackles and DJ Ackerson has 34 tackles.

Senior Nasir Nelson has also made an impact with 10 tackles for loss on the season.

UP NEXT

The Pirates return home Thursday (Oct. 16) for a fall break matchup with U.S. Grant (2-4, 0-3) at Pirate Stadium.

The Generals were routed by Piedmont last Thursday, 70-6. Grant hasn’t won a district game since 2021 when they routed Northwest Classen.

The Generals had a 2-0 start this season with non-district wins over 5A Western Heights and Capitol Hill. They lost their last non-district game to rival 5A Southeast and every district game since.
