MIDWEST CITY — Bethany advanced to the semifinals of the 4A state volleyball tournament with a 3-0 win over Christian Heritage Academy Thursday (Oct. 16) at Carl Albert.

The Bronchos won the match, 25-9, 25-20 and 25-13.

“The girls came out fired up and with so much energy,” Bethany coach Kerri Cagle said via text. “They were so ready to play. They kept aggressive serves throughout the entire match and their strong defense helped our offensive players be successful also.”

Bethany (30-4) faces top-ranked Community Christian (34-1) Friday (Oct. 17) at 9:30 a.m. in the semifinals.

CCS easily dispatched eighth-ranked Weatherford, 3-0 (25-9, 25-18, 25-11).

Bethany and CCS played in last season’s final, a 3-1 Broncho win. The Saints won both matchups this season, 3-0 on Sept. 23 and 2-0 on Oct. 4 at the Greater Metro Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Bronchos were ranked second most of the season but ended up in a tie with Cascia Hall for third in the final state rankings. Bethany was seeded fourth behind the Commandos for the bracket which led to the unusual situation of having two of the favorites for the title meeting in the semifinals.

CAGLE EARNS COACH OF THE YEAR HONORS

Bethany volleyball coach Kerri Cagle was named the Volleyball Coach of the Year by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.

The honor came after Cagle led the Bronchos to the school’s first state championship in volleyball last season.

Bethany was the runner-up in 2023 and has six other state tournament appearances during Cagle’s tenure.

“The coaching award was a huge surprise,” Cagle said.

Cagle is in her 13th season at the helm and helped start the volleyball program at Bethany.
