OKLAHOMA CITY — Putnam City North scored six touchdowns in the first half to rout outmatched Capitol Hill, 47-0, Friday (Oct. 10) in a 6A-II District 2 contest at C.B. Speegle Stadium.
Putnam City North coach Brian Lockart said his goal against the overmatched Redwolves was to get a win, the 15 points for district and to stay healthy as his team is already dealing with depth issues.
Beyond that, Lockart said he wanted his team “to go out there and just focus on us and play a clean game. “
Offensively, the Panthers had six different players score.
North scored on every possession except the final possession of the first half when the Panthers held a 41-0 lead.
North’s second score was set up by a 15-yard run by senior Josh Lombard. Two plays later, senior Terry Wilson, Jr. scored his first touchdown of the game to make it 16-0 with 6:42 left in the first quarter.
North’s next score was set up by a 3-yard punt from Capitol Hill with Panther defenders applying pressure on the kick. That led to senior Mason Jones connecting with senior tight end Terry Southern for a 39-yard touchdown pass.
To cap off the scoring in the first quarter, Jones rushed 16 yards for another touchdown.
Junior Charlie Bowie got into the act in the second quarter. He caught a pass from Jones behind the line of scrimmage and made four defenders miss and spun around to elude two others for a 28-yard score.
The North defense earned its second shutout of the season.
After North’s final score, Capitol Hill junior Jayce Thompson took the ensuing kickoff 56 yards to the North 26 which gave the Redwolves their best shot to score.
Junior Kaleb Gipson came off the edge for a sack on first down. Capitol Hill went backwards from that point and turned the ball over on downs to preserve the shutout.
