JONES — Bethany broke a tie ballgame with four runs in the third inning for a 9-3 rout of 3A Jones Monday (Oct. 6) in a warmup for Thursday’s 4A Super Regional with Blanchard.

“Felt like it was a good night to help us prepare for Thursday,” Bethany coach Booker Blakley said via text.

The Bronchos (19-11) and Longhorns (16-14) were tied at 1-1 going into the third inning when Bethany took advantage of a hit-by-pitch, a walk and a Jones error to lead off the inning.

Junior Grey Williamson doubled to center field to score two runs. Senior Berkley Johnson followed with a double to center as well which scored two more runs to make it 5-1.

“It was good to see our offense continue to have some success,” Blakley said.

In the sixth inning, another Williamson double added two more runs with freshman Rian Rollins and junior Ella Davis scoring after hitting back-to-back 1-out singles.

In the seventh inning, senior Madison Bibbs sent a ball over the left field fence for a 2-run home run to make it 9-2.

Madison Bibbs went 2-for-5 on the day. Johnson added a 3-for-4 performance. She doubled twice and added two runs batted in.

Williamson was 2-for-4. She scored once and drove in four runs.

Rollins was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Ella Davis, junior Emma Geissler, senior Emma Buxton and senior Maddison McNutt each had a hit.

In the circle, senior Paige Sechrist allowed four hits and a run over three innings. She struck out one batter. Fellow senior Jayda Davis tossed four innings and scattered seven hits. Jayda Davis allowed two runs and struck out four batters.

“Pitchers did a good job managing any threats from Jones,” Blakley said.

UP NEXT

The Bronchos head to Blanchard for the Super Regional round of the 4A playoffs Thursday and Friday (Oct. 9-10). The series is best 2-of-3 between the two schools.

The Bronchos take on the Lions at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday. The final game, if necessary, is Friday at 12 p.m.
