BETHANY — Elk City senior Aubrie Pogue held Bethany to two hits in the circle and hit a first-inning three-run home run as the Elkettes beat Bethany, 5-0, Thursday (Sept. 25) to end 4A-3 play.

“We were unable to get the bats really going at all today,” Bethany coach Booker Blakley said via text. “We had a tough first inning but after that we calmed down and played a competitive ball game. Got some other players some opportunities which can be good down the road.”

A leadoff single for Elk City was followed by walk to Aubrie’s younger sister, Lynlee. Aubrie Pogue sent an 0-1 pitch over the left field wall to make it 3-0. The Elkettes had two more singles and a Bethany error to make it 4-0.

The Bronchos’ best opportunity to score came in the second inning. Senior Paige Sechrist reached on an error to lead off the inning. Two outs later, junior Emma Geissler singled but the rally fizzled.

In the fourth inning, Lynlee Pogue, a freshman, doubled home a run to make it 5-0.

Geissler singled again in the fifth inning, but the offense struggled to make anything happen.

Senior Jayda Davis took the loss. She allowed 10 hits over seven innings. Of the five runs she allowed, four were earned. She walked one and struck out six.

Aubrie Pogue struck out eight Bronchos and walked two.
