After falling to 2A’s top-ranked team in Jones last Friday (Sept. 12), the final non-district game of the season won’t be any easier for Bethany.
The Bronchos, who dropped out of the 4A poll from the Associated Press at 1-1, will welcome Shiloh Christian (Ark.) (1-1) next Friday (Sept. 19).
Bethany coach Jon Arthur said the contest will “definitely be a challenge.”
The Saints, from Springdale in northwest Arkansas are a 6A power that has 10 state titles in different classifications, including their last title – in 2020 as a 4A school. They finished as the 6A state runner-up last season and are ranked seventh in 6A in Arkansas.
Lincoln Christian, top-ranked in 3A, beat Shiloh, 41-33, Friday.
In that game, Shiloh Christian junior Cole Creighton threw for 407 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions against the Bulldogs.
The Saints had two receivers with over 100 yards receiving. Chandler Kemp caught eight passes for 132 yards and two scores. He had an 80-yard completion in the third quarter against Lincoln Christian.
Zane Sluyter added nine catches for 124 yards.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS VS JONES
Against Jones, Bethany junior Brody McLaren completed 13-of-26 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown. McLaren was sacked five times by the Longhorns.
Senior Seth Griener was McLaren biggest target. He caught nine passes for 115 yards. Sophomore Breck Brady had two catches for 20 yards including a touchdown. Senior Jagger Weaver caught a 30-yard pass and junior Wyatt Keefer snagged a 12-yard pass.
On the ground, Keefer rushed 19 times for 108 yards, including a78-yard run.
Senior Baren Tehee broke a 58-yard run and finished with 73 yards on two carries. McLaren gained 14 yards on nine carries.
BRONCHOS STAYING ON THE FIELD
Arthur marveled at Jones, a smaller school in 2A, not having many players play both offense and defense.
“When they go from offensive to defense, they jog pretty much 11 new bodies out there,” Arthur said.
In a good year, Arthur said he might 5 to 6 guys playing both ways, but with a younger group this season, the number is closer to seven or eight.
“Definitely, they wore us down a little bit just as the game went on.”

TEXAS TECH OFFERS BRADY
Brady earned his first Division I offer this week, when Texas Tech extended an offer to the sophomore.
Brady, 6’6″ and 235 pounds, has three catches for 36 yards and a score. He also has eight tackles, three for a loss.
Brady is the son of Putnam City West standout (and later Oklahoma and NFL tight end) Ricky Brady.
