TULSA — Bethany’s boys cross country team competed at the Mid Season Meet of Champions at Lincoln Christian Saturday (Sept. 13).

“This race was heavy with very competitive competition,” Bethany coach Zac Coulson said via text. “Lincoln Christian is the defending state champions, the favorite to win again in 4A. Regent Prep is a powerhouse in 2A/3A. Bishop Kelley is state champions in 5A. Owasso and Union are huge 6A schools. And many other great programs racing against.”

Sophomore Salyer Stayton paced the Bronchos, finishing 40th with a time of 18:26.39. Fellow sophomore Aiden Donoghue followed in 51st place at 18:47.71.

Coulson said Stayton and Donoghue “ran phenomenal races.”

“In my opinion their best races I’ve seen them race, especially Aiden. It’s great to see the top five guys under 20 minutes.

Coulson said freshman Davis Toler was “right there too as the sixth runner.” He also praised junor Ian Redinger for making the varsity team for the team’s next race.

Overall, the team finished ninth in the team competition.

“What excites me about this group, is they are racing against older guys.”

Coulson pointed out that this squad has three juniors, three sophomores and a freshman.

“That means we have some young talent, if they keep showing up, be consistent and discipline with their running. Things are bright!” Coulson said. “But these boys HAVE TO want it! It’s up to them deep down in how bad they want to reach their full potential. It’s not up to anyone else.”
