
BETHANY— Bethany broke open a one-run game with seven runs in the third inning to rout Bishop McGuinness, 18-8, Tuesday (Sept. 16) in a 4A-3 contest.
The Bronchos led 8-7 when the big inning started. Senior Berkley Johnson led off the inning with a double and later tripled in the same inning. Junior Ella Davis smacked a three-run homer over the right field wall in the inning.
“Real proud of the girls to come out and overcome a slow start defensively the first few innings,” Bethany coach Booker Blakley said via text. “(We) kept answering back offensively.”
The Irish opened the game by plating three runs. Freshman Mila Breslin highlighted the inning with a two-run home run. Bethany hitters answered in the bottom half of the inning by walking four times. Ella Davis singled in a run and senior Jayda Davis had sacrifice fly to score another and Bethany tied the game at 3-3.
The Irish mounted a two-out rally in the second inning, capped off by another home run, this time from sophomore Olivia Giles to make it 7-3.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Bronchos took the lead for good. Johnson led off with a home over the left field wall. Senior Madison Bibbs, junior Jules Barger, freshman Rian Rollins and junior Grey Williamson each had singles in consecutive at-bats. Senior Emma Buxton added an RBI-double. A groundout by senior Paige Sechrist scored Ella Davis and Bethany led, 8-7.
Bethany hitters collected 17 hits in the win. Only two players in the lineup didn’t have a hit.
“Happy for the girls, especially some who have been struggling at the plate. Hoping this is the kickstart some of them need going forward,” Blakley said.
Barger finished 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. Rollins was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Ella Davis added a 2-for-4 day. She scored three times and drove in four runs. Madison Bibbs and Sechrist were both 2-for-3. Madison Bibbs scored three times and Sechrist drove in two runs.
Williamson and Buxton each added a hit.
The Bronchos walked six times and didn’t have a strikeout.
Sechrist came in to pitch in relief of Jayda Davis. Sechrist tossed 3 1/3 innings allowing two hits and a lone run. She struck out three batters for the win.

Bethany travels to Woodward (14-3, 4-3) Wednesday (Sept. 17) at 3 p.m.
The Boomers lost to Elk City, 6-2, Friday.
