SHAWNEE — Putnam City North’s second half comeback fell short in a 32-19 loss to 5A Shawnee Friday (Sept. 5) to open the 2025 season.

The Panthers were held scoreless in the first half as the Wolves built a 19-0 lead at halftime. North responded in the second half with three touchdown passes from senior Mason Jones.

Senior Terry Wilson, Jr. caught a screen pass from Jones and sprinted 15 yards through defenders for North’s first score with 6:31 left in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Jones connected with junior Charlie Bowie to cut the deficit to six points, 19-13.

Shawnee (1-0) answered with a 26-yard touchdown run from senior Kedarrius Palmer to make it 25-13. It was one of three scores on the ground from Palmer and one of five rushing scores by the Wolves.

Jones found senior Bravion Stubbs in the end zone with 2:05 left in the game, but Palmer scored one more time to seal the win.

Along with Jones’ three touchdown passes, he was intercepted twice.
