LAWTON — Western Heights split a doubleheader with Lawton, losing 11-3 and winning 8-5 in 5A-1 contests Tuesday (Aug. 12).

GAME 1: LAWTON 11, WESTERN HEIGHTS 3

The Wolverines scored six runs in the fifth inning to break the game open.

The Jets scored twice in the first inning. Abbie Bise scored on a passed ball and Makayla Brown stole home to take a 2-0 lead.

Lawton answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and another run in the second to take a 3-2 lead.

After two Wolverine runs in the fourth inning and six in the fifth, the Jets scored again in the sixth inning.

Jalesa Asimba and Bise led off the inning with walks and Aracena Martin doubled a Asimba home.

That was the only hit for the Jets who struggled at the plate. Lawton junior Olivia Williams struck out 14 batters in the win.

GAME 2: WESTERN HEIGHTS 8, LAWTON 5

The Jets jumped out to a lead and took advantage of six Lawton errors to win the second game.

A Lawton error, singles by Makalya Brown and Raelynn Frost and a triple by Martin led to four runs in the first inning.

In the second inning, Martin reached on an error and Asimba scored. In the third inning, Frost reached on an error and scored on a single by Abby Castillo and Western Heights led 6-3.

In the fourth inning, three more Lawton errors added two more runs in the win.

Asimba went 3-for-3 with a triple, three stolen bases and three runs scored. Castillo added a 2-for-3 days with a run batted in.

In the circle, Asimba rebounded for her first win of the year. She scattered 10 hits. Of her five runs allowed, only two were earned. She walked one batter and struck out seven.

Western Heights plays in the Pauls Valley tournament Friday and Saturday (Aug. 15-16).
