Putnam City West volleyball coach Reagan McNeil is “incredibly” excited for the new season.
McNeil said in a preseason questionnaire that her squad “has an impressive skill set.”
“While we lack height, we are committed to defense with an unmatched tenacity,”McNeil said.
The Patriots were 4-16 a year ago but McNeil sees progress with her team.
“We force opponents to make plays and play defense as well,” McNeil said. “We are a young team that grows into more of a threat with each week.”
Senior right side hitter Brennen Bert (5’5″) is the captain of the team. McNeil said Bert “brings athleticism, court awareness and relentless defense. Fellow senior Carli Antonelli is a 5’9” middle blocker. McNeil said she is “hard working” and a “threat at the net”
West will have a senior newcomer in Simone Robinson, a 5’6″ setter from Mustang. McNeil said Robinson is a “skilled server and dynamic player.”
Sophomore Kamdynn Liles (5’9′) is a “strong attacker and utility player,” according to her coach. Another sophomore outside hitter, Willow Hardway (5’6″) also plays a utility role. McNeil said Hardway has an “impressive vertical” jump and “court awareness.”
Sophomore middle blocker Hay Lee Arriola (5’6″) is “athletic, fast and a threat at the net.”
McNeil calls sophomore Mia Lino (5’5″) “one of the best liberos in the conference.” McNeil said Lino has “incredible volleyball IQ” and is a “quick, dynamic libero.” Lino will serve as an alternate captain.
“I am very honored to coach the girls I do,” McNeil said. “They are hard workers, and I feel blessed to coach what I believe to be the best group of female athletes that West has to offer.
“We are committed to our craft, and we embrace every opportunity to grow and hone our skill set.”
