PIEDMONT — Putnam City North’s softball opener didn’t go as planned in a 9-1 loss to Piedmont Monday (Aug. 12).
The Panthers and Wildcats were scheduled to play a doubleheader at North Monday, but storms moved the game to Piedmont, which has a turf field, for a single contest.
Piedmont (1-0) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after scoring three runs in both the first and second innings.
North (0-1) picked up a run in the third inning.
Junior Presley Standridge singled to center field to lead off the inning. Sophomore Kaden Staden followed two batters later with a groundout, moving Standridge to second base.
Junior Savannah Martinez singled to center, scoring Standridge.
Standridge went 2-for-3 for the contest.
The North bats struggled against Piedmont freshman pitcher Malli Zeaman, who struck out eight batters while walking just one.
