OWASSO — Putnam City is sending several track athletes to the Class 6A State Championship after a strong showing Saturday (May 10) at the regional in Owasso.

The boys team finished third overall and the girls squad landed in fourth in the regional.

Senior Kelton Locke qualified in four events including the long jump where he posted a state-best jump of 24-10.50. Locke is the son Derrick Locke, who holds the state long jump record.

The elder Locke also played college football and ran track at Kentucky as well as had a stint in the CFL.

Kelton Locke also finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.07.

Fellow senior Aaron Sainth finished third in the long jump event behind Kelton Locke at 22-2.25.

Sainth ran the 100-meter dash in 10.87, good for a third-place finish and a berth at state.

Original’s boys had three relay teams qualify for state.

The 4×100-meter team and the 4×200-meter teams both qualified. The first relay team finished second with a time of 42.56 while in the second event, they also finished second at 1:28.03.

Sainth, Locke, senior Mykel Ford and junior Davion Huffman are the members of both of the relay teams.

The 4×400-meter relay team qualified with a third-place finish and a time of 3:29.28.

Huffman, senior Kamden Muex, juniors Rodgerick Sloan and Driver Robison make up that team.

In the girls division, senior Amala Offiaeli earned a spot in the long jump with a third place finish and a mark of 15-9.25.

Offiaeli also qualified in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.37.

Junior Michaela Amoah qualified after she finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.62, just shy of the 12.57 from Broken Arrow senior Karee Wales.

The girls 4×200-meter relay team also qualified by finishing third with a time of 1:46.58. Amoah, Offiaeli, junior Neveah Rosewell and senior Destinee Hunt comprise that team.

Putnam City’s state qualifiers will compete at Western Heights Friday and Saturday (May 16-17) in the Class 6A State Track Championship.
