Pirates fall twice in regional

WARR ACRES — Putnam City fell twice on the opening day of the Class 6A Regional 1 tournament Wednesday (May 7) to finish the season at 4-32.

The tournament was to be hosted by Edmond Memorial but heavy rains over the past week made the Bulldogs’ field at Edmond Central Middle School unplayable, the first day of action was moved to the turf at Pirate Field.

EDMOND MEMORIAL 12, PUTNAM CITY 0

The Bulldogs broke open a 2-0 game with 10 runs over the last two innings for a five-inning run-rule win.

Edmond Memorial senior Owen Fritts threw a five-inning no-hitter. He allowed one baserunner, a two-hit walk to PC junior Brandon Bennett in the fourth inning. The Pirates made lots of contact as Fritts only struck out three batters.

The Lions broke a scoreless tie with eight runs in the fifth inning.

Moore sophomore Keaton Mongold allowed just two hits and walked one batter. He struck out 11 Pirates in the win.

Bennett had both hits. His single in the fourth followed sophomore Jared Potter reaching on an error to give Original life in the inning.

Bennett also singled in the seventh inning. Senior Connor Fast also had a walk.
