WARR ACRES — Putnam City finished the regular season with a 7-0 shutout of 2A Frederick Saturday (May 3).

“The team is really starting to come into their own on defense,” Putnam City coach Joseph Wood said via text. “The goal all season has been to compete and they are doing that. Pitchers threw a lot of strikes which is what we want.”

The Pirates committed one error in the win.

Senior Connor Fast went 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, a run scored and an RBI. Sophomore Bryson Vanover was 1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Senior Lukas Poindexter added a 1-for-3 day with a triple and a run scored. Freshman Damon Hopkins was 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI.

Junior Brandon Bennett walked twice and stole three bases.

Vanover led a trio of Pirate pitchers in the win, pitching the first five innings. He allowed one hit, walked two and struck out six batters. Senior Andrew Simon struck out three batters in a scoreless 1 2/3-inning stint.
