WISTER — For the first time since 2006, the Bethany girls golf team qualified for the state tournament as a team after its performance Wednesday (April 23) in the Class 4A Regional at Wolf Mountain Country Club.

“This is an incredible time to be a Broncho golfer,” Bethany coach Ryley Claborn said via email. “The girls have worked extremely hard to get to this point of the season, and we have exceeded every goal of ours throughout the year.”

Bethany finished third in the regional as a team, shooting a combined 378, just one stroke behind second place and host team Poteau, who shot a 377.

“Although we did not play our best round of the year, we had some ladies step up and play well down the stretch for us to punch our ticket,” Claborn said.

Fort Gibson finished first with a 364. Hilldale finished fourth with a score of 390.

Senior Jacquelynne Self paced the Lady Bronchos individually with a seventh place finish. Self shot an 89, just ahead of fellow senior Addi Hoefar, who finished 10th with a 92.

Other golfers included junior Drew Jacobson (14th, 96), junior McKenna Calderon (17th, 101) and junior Emma Buxton (47th, 122).

Bethany will compete in the 4A State Tournament May 5-6 at Shawnee Country Club.

“We have had some very good girl individuals throughout the last couple decades, but never a team like this,” Claborn said. “It’s a really good feeling for me as a coach and I am so incredibly proud of our girls.”
