OKLAHOMA CITY— Bethany senior Charlie Tolle threw a no-hitter at Bishop McGuinness but it took a seventh inning rally for the Bronchos to beat the Fighting Irish, 4-2, Monday (April 21) in a 4A-4 matchup.

Tolle struck out 12 batters and walked two.

“He was awesome,” Bethany coach Robert Lee said via text about Tolle. “Had his breaking pitches going and his velocity was really good. He really beared down the last three innings. Glad we got a win for him. He deserved it.”

The Bronchos (21-5, 9-2) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Senior Layton Reither singled to center field. Sophomore Brody McLaren reached on an infield error. Fellow sophomore Cooper Willis bunted the runners over and senior Brock Cross’ sacrifice fly to left field scored Reither.

The Irish (16-9, 7-4) took advantage of a walk and an error to tie the game at 1-1 in the third inning.

Trailing 2-1 in the seventh, the Bronchos scored three runs on an error, three walks and a two-run single by senior Andrew Taber.

Taber and Reither had Bethany’s only hits. The Bronchos walked seven times, including three from junior Judson Gilliland and two from junior Karter Thomas.
