MUSTANG — Putnam City West gave up an early 4-0 lead in a 13-5 loss to host Mustang Wednesday (April 2) in a 6A-1 contest.

The Patriots earned the early advantage on back-to-back singles by freshman Cadence Smith and sophomore Alex Jimenez to start the game. Senior Nathan Vann followed with a double to right field, scoring Smith.

Sophomore Aaron De Loera grounded out, scoring Jimenez. Another groundout, this time by sophomore Jarin Hoff, scored Vann.

Senior Marshall Byars followed with a single and scored on a Mustang error to make it 4-0.

From that point, West managed only one more hit and the Broncos (9-7, 3-3) took control.

Mustang plated five runs in the bottom half of the inning on two Patriot errors and two walks.

Mustang led 8-4 in the sixth inning when senior Luis Enriquez scored on a Mustang error to make it 8-5.

The Broncos put the game away in the bottom half of the inning with five more runs.

West hitters struck out eight times in the loss.

Hoff took the loss. He allowed eight runs in five innings. Only two of the runs were earned. Hoff walked six batters and struck out two.

UP NEXT

West (3-8, 2-4) begins play Thursday (April 3) in Santa Fe South’s Dawgz of the South tournament.

West will play Southeast at 10 a.m. and the OKC Mets at 4:45 p.m. Both games will be at Capitol Hill High School.
