NOBLE — Bethany avenged an earlier loss to Woodward with a 2-1 win Saturday (March 29) to capture the Rose Rock Classic title.
The Lady Bronchos opened the tournament with a 7-0 rout of 5A Altus Thursday followed by a 1-0 win over host 5A Noble Friday.
Bethany coach Sean Williams said he was pleased how his team responded In a tournament setting, dealing with situations and “handling the pressure of tight games and exploiting match ups” against good competition
“Our girls did a great job of executing game plan tactically and in set pieces, both offensively and defensively,” Williams said via text. “We have some very good players who played very well. Our mindset was to come away with a trophy and the girls did a great job of finishing our opportunities and rally making it difficult for our opponents to have a lot of quality chances.”
Woodward beat Bethany, 1-0, on March 7 as the Lady Bronchos struggled with an 0-3 start. Since then, Bethany has reeled off five straight wins.
Bethany sophomore Camryn Regier, freshman Shayne VonFeldt and senior Kayten Donley were named to the All-Tournament team.
