OKLAHOMA CITY — Bethany’s run in the state tournament ended Wednesday (March 12) in a 61-56 loss to third-ranked North Rock Creek in the Class 4A Boys State quarterfinals at Jim Norick Arena.

After trailing at halftime, 28-23, the 12th-ranked Bronchos (19-9) surged to a 40-39 lead after three quarters. Bethany led for a good portion of the fourth quarter as senior Aiden Todd scored 11 of his game-high 24 points in the final period.

North Rock Creek (24-2) took the lead at 55-53 on a bucket by senior Caleb Hawkins with :58 left.

Todd and the Bronchos took the lead back. Todd hit the front end of two free throws but missed the second. Bethany got the rebound and Todd layed it in to make it 56-55 with :42 left.

Hawkins gave the Cougars the lead for good with two free throws at the :17 mark.

Todd missed a jumper on the other end the Bronchos were forced to foul. Hawkins sank to two more free throws to make it 59-56 with :12 left.

Bethany had one more opportunity but Todd’s pass inside was deflected by North Rock Creek sophomore Tyson Hawkins into senior Cason Coomer’s arms.

Coomer hit two free throws with one second left to seal the deal, 61-56.

Todd hit 10-of-20 from the field and was 4-of-7 from the line in his final game as a Broncho.

Fellow senior Lukas Wooldridge added 11 points and five rebounds. Junior Denton Jaggers followed with nine points and four rebounds off the bench.

Senior Jackie Payne scored five points, brought down 10 boards (nine on the defensive end) and took third charges.

Bethany shot 42 percent for the contest (47 percent in the second half alone).

The Bronchos dominated points off the bench, 11-2 and won the points in the paint battle, 36-26.

Hawkins scored 23 points and had seven rebounds for the Cougars. Coomer added 14 points and five rebounds. Junior Kohen Warden followed with 12 points and four rebounds.
